The Alfred Collection
The Alfred Chesterfield is a bold, club‑inspired interpretation of the classic British design. With its deeper seat, generous scroll arms and strong, grounded silhouette, it offers a commanding presence suited to larger rooms and statement interiors. The Alfred’s full hand‑buttoned back and refined proportions create a luxurious, enveloping sit, while its robust frame and traditional craftsmanship ensure lasting comfort and durability. Built entirely by hand on a solid hardwood frame, it embodies the depth and character of true heritage upholstery.
Craft & Construction
The Alfred is individually hand deep‑buttoned across the back and arms, with each pleat shaped by our skilled craftspeople to create a crisp, traditional diamond pattern. The scroll arms are generously padded, giving the model its distinctive club‑room comfort and sculptural presence.
The frame is hand‑joined from solid hardwood, dowelled, glued and screwed for enduring strength. Each piece is finished with individually hand‑nailed studs, placed one at a time to complement the model’s bold proportions.
This model is crafted using the same deep‑buttoning and hand‑tied techniques described in our Craft & Upholstery Guide, ensuring every Alfred reflects true British maker skill rather than mass‑produced retail methods.
Made in England, One Piece at a Time
Every Winchester sofa is produced in small batches by trained upholsterers in England, maintaining the standards set out in our Workshop Principles and preserving the heritage of traditional British furniture making.
