Limited Heritage Edition Declaration
Commissioned to Mark the Origins of the British Chesterfield
The 1773 Chesterfield - Winchester Heritage Edition is produced as a Limited Heritage Edition, commissioned to honour the earliest documented Chesterfields and the craft lineage that shaped them.
Each piece is made in restricted numbers to preserve the integrity of the traditional methods used, ensuring the model remains a faithful continuation of 18th‑century British upholstery practice.
This edition exists not as a commercial range, but as a cultural marker. a demonstration of the craftsmanship, proportion and discipline that defined the original Chesterfield and which Winchester is committed to protecting.

The 1773 Chesterfield - Heritage Edition
The 1773 Chesterfield is a commanding, historically anchored interpretation of the classic British design. With its elevated back, generously rolled arms and deep hand‑buttoned upholstery, the 1773 carries a stately presence that feels unmistakably traditional.
Its proportions are bold yet beautifully balanced, offering a luxurious, supportive sit that reflects the depth of true British craftsmanship.
Built on a hand‑joined hardwood frame and upholstered entirely by hand, the 1773 Chesterfield is created for those who seek a piece with grandeur, authority and enduring maker quality, a sofa that honours the lineage of the earliest 18th‑century Chesterfields.

Craft & Construction
The 1773 Chesterfield is individually hand deep‑buttoned across the back and arms, with each pleat shaped by our skilled craftspeople to create a crisp, traditional diamond pattern.
The elevated back and full scroll arms give the model its regal silhouette, while double piping around the facings and front border provides a clean, disciplined finish that reinforces the sofa’s heritage character without the use of studwork.
The frame is hand‑joined from solid hardwood, dowelled, glued and screwed for enduring strength. Every element is crafted using traditional British upholstery methods to ensure structure, comfort and long‑term durability.
This model is built using the same deep‑buttoning and hand‑tied techniques described in our Craft & Upholstery Guide, ensuring every 1773 Chesterfield reflects true British maker skill rather than mass‑produced retail methods.
The 1773 Chesterfield is available in a curated selection of premium leathers chosen for character, durability and natural ageing.
• Antique‑finished hides highlight the depth of the buttoning beautifully
• Full‑grain leathers offer a more contemporary interpretation of this grand silhouette
Each hide is selected for its natural markings, depth of colour and ability to age with grace.

We have selected what we believe to be the best standard filling materials to provide optimum support for each model, allowing the springs to do their job and ensuring a balanced, long‑lasting sit.
Seat options include:
• Foam cushions for a firmer, more structured sit
• Fibre cushions for a softer, more relaxed comfort
