Viscount Wing Chair
Each Winchester piece is handmade in our British workshop using traditional upholstery methods passed down through generations. You can explore our full craft lineage in the Heritage Timeline, and the techniques behind every model are detailed in our Craft & Upholstery Guide, which outlines the traditional methods we use to build each piece.
The Viscount Wing Chair
The Viscount Wing Chair is a commanding, heritage‑rich interpretation of the classic British wing chair. With its fully deep‑buttoned back, buttoned arms and buttoned wings, the Viscount showcases the sculptural depth and precision of true maker upholstery. The tall wings create an enveloping, protective profile, while the solid wooden H‑frame base grounds the design with a craftsman‑built presence. Built on a hand‑joined hardwood frame and upholstered entirely by hand, the Viscount delivers a firm, supportive sit with unmistakable British character and gravitas.

Craft & Construction
The Viscount is individually hand deep‑buttoned across the high back, wings and arms. Each pleat is shaped and each button is set by hand, creating a crisp, symmetrical diamond pattern that flows seamlessly across the chair’s sculptural surfaces. The buttoned wings require exceptional precision, as the buttoning must follow the curved form without distortion, a hallmark of true British upholstery skill.
Its defining structural feature is the solid‑wood H‑frame base, crafted from kiln‑dried hardwood and finished by hand. The H‑frame provides stability, visual balance and a traditional craftsman aesthetic that complements the richness of the buttoning.
The internal frame is hand‑joined from solid hardwood, dowelled, glued and screwed for enduring strength. Every element is crafted using the traditional British upholstery methods outlined in our Craft & Upholstery Guide, ensuring structure, comfort and long‑term durability.
The Viscount Wing Chair is available in a wide choice of premium leathers selected for character, durability and natural ageing. Antique‑finished hides highlight the depth of the buttoning beautifully, while full‑grain leathers offer a more contemporary interpretation of this bold, sculptural silhouette.
