Captains Swivel & Tilt Office Chair
Each Winchester piece is handmade in our British workshop using traditional upholstery methods passed down through generations. You can explore our full craft lineage in the Heritage Timeline, and the techniques behind every model are detailed in our Craft & Upholstery Guide, which outlines the traditional methods we use to build each piece.
The Captains Swivel & Tilt Office Chair
The Captains Swivel & Tilt Office Chair brings the familiar character of a classic English captain’s chair into a refined, modern working environment. Handmade using authentic materials and heritage upholstery techniques, the Captains model balances comfort, proportion and presence with the practical adjustments required for long hours at the desk. The height and tilt mechanism allow for a tailored sitting position, while the smooth swivel base provides ease of movement without compromising the chair’s traditional Winchester character. Built on a hand‑joined hardwood frame and upholstered entirely by hand, the Captains chair offers enduring quality and a disciplined, maker‑led interpretation of the classic office chair.

Craft & Construction
The Captains chair is crafted using the same heritage methods applied to our classic seating, with every stage shaped by hand according to the principles outlined in our Craft & Upholstery Guide.
The frame is hand‑joined from solid hardwood, dowelled, glued and screwed for long‑term strength. The seat and back are upholstered by hand, with careful shaping and traditional padding techniques to ensure comfort and longevity.
The chair features a swivel and tilt mechanism, allowing for a balanced, adjustable sitting position suited to extended periods of work. The base is fitted with smooth‑running castors and finished in a style that complements the chair’s traditional form.
Every detail, from the leather cutting to the hand‑tacked upholstery, reflects the discipline and precision of true British craftsmanship.
Made in England, One Piece at a Time
Every Winchester piece is produced in small batches by trained upholsterers in England, maintaining the standards set out in our Workshop Principles and preserving the heritage of traditional British furniture making.
