Honouring a craft that began in 1773
Inside The Workshop - 1994
A custodian of a 250‑year tradition
Winchester began in a small workshop in the 1970s, built on the belief that true craftsmanship takes time, patience, and respect for materials. What started as a modest bench and a handful of tools has grown into a workshop where every piece is shaped by hand and guided by intention. Our craft has never been about speed or volume, it has always been about meaning.
Across five decades, the tools have changed, but the values have not. We still cut, stitch, and finish every piece with the same discipline that defined our earliest years. We still choose materials for their integrity, not their convenience. And we still believe that furniture should be made to last, not just in structure, but in sentiment.

Honouring a craft that began in 1773

In 1994, Winchester produced a full manufacturing film for our global retail partners, a transparent, start‑to‑finish record of how a true British Chesterfield was made. Hundreds of copies were distributed to showrooms around the world, giving customers an honest view of the craftsmanship behind every piece. Today, that original film stands as living proof of our heritage, capturing the same techniques and values that continue to guide our workshop.
The Inside the Workshop, The Making of a Winchester
Every Winchester is built the same way: by hand, by craft, and by people who know the material better than anyone. This archive takes you through each stage of the process, from wet‑blue leather to the first cut of hide, all the way to the final hand‑rubbed finish. Nothing is hidden, nothing is rushed. This is the truth behind a Winchester Chesterfield: real materials, real skill, and a way of making that has survived because it deserves to.
