Wornstone Chesterfield Collection

Each Winchester Chesterfield is handmade in our British workshop using traditional upholstery methods passed down through generations. Our Heritage Timeline documents this lineage in detail, showing how our techniques have evolved from the early makers to the present day.

The Wornstone Collection

The Wornstone Chesterfield is a soft, vintage‑toned interpretation of the classic British sofa, defined by its rolled arms, deep‑buttoned back and fully hand‑buttoned seat. The silhouette is calm and architectural, offering a contemporary reading of the traditional Chesterfield while retaining the depth and character of true British upholstery.

Its proportions are carefully balanced, structured without feeling rigid, refined without being delicate, making the Wornstone one of the most versatile models in the Winchester range. Built on a hand‑joined hardwood frame and upholstered entirely by hand, it delivers a supportive, comfortable sit with unmistakable maker quality.

Craft & Construction

The Wornstone is individually hand deep‑buttoned across the back, arms and seat, with each pleat shaped by our craftspeople to create a crisp, traditional diamond pattern. The rolled arms give the model its distinctive, modern‑heritage profile, while optional hand‑nailed studwork adds precision and period‑correct detailing.

The frame is hand‑joined from solid hardwood, dowelled, glued and screwed for long‑term strength. Every element is crafted using traditional British upholstery methods to ensure structure, comfort and durability.

This model is built using the same deep‑buttoning and hand‑tied techniques described in our Craft & Upholstery Guide, ensuring every Wornstone reflects genuine workshop skill rather than mass‑produced retail methods.

Archive Leather Blends

The Wornstone is upholstered in a mixed vintage leather blend, created by individually selecting, cutting and composing plain premium leathers in our workshop. Customers do not choose colours or finishes, each piece is made from a curated mix of natural tones and grains, giving every Wornstone its own quiet variation and vintage character.

No two patterns are ever the same, and the depth comes from the leather itself rather than from surface antiquing. This approach ensures each Wornstone carries a unique, lived‑in warmth while maintaining the clean, structured silhouette of the model.

Seating & Comfort

The Wornstone features a fully hand‑buttoned seat, built using traditional upholstery methods that allow the springs beneath to work as intended. We select what we believe to be the best standard filling materials for this type of construction, ensuring the seat remains supportive, balanced and comfortable while retaining the crisp definition of the buttoning. The result is a structured, long‑lasting sit that reflects true British workshop craft.

A detailed specification sheet is available for every model in the Wornstone Collection.
