Canterbury Chesterfield Collection
Each Winchester Chesterfield is handmade in our British workshop using traditional upholstery methods passed down through generations. You can explore our full craft lineage in the Heritage Timeline, which documents how our techniques have evolved since the early makers.

Craft & Construction
The Canterbury is crafted with smooth, unbuttoned panels across the back, arms and front border, a style that demands exceptional precision in leather cutting, stretching and hand‑tacking. Without the visual structure of deep buttoning, the tailoring must be flawless, with every seam aligned and every curve perfectly shaped.
The frame is hand‑joined from solid hardwood, dowelled, glued and screwed for enduring strength. The scroll arms are traditionally padded and finished with individually hand‑nailed studs, placed one at a time to complement the model’s clean, elegant lines.
This model is crafted using the same hand‑tied springing and traditional upholstery methods described in our Craft & Upholstery Guide, ensuring every Canterbury reflects true British maker skill rather than mass‑produced retail methods.

The Canterbury is available in a wide choice of premium leathers selected for character, durability and natural ageing. Because the model is unbuttoned, the leather’s natural grain, colour depth and patina become the focal point — making full‑grain and premium hides especially striking on this design.

We have selected what we believe to be the best standard filling materials to provide optimum support for each model, allowing the springs to do their job.

A detailed specification sheet is available for every model in the Canterbury Collection.
