Louis Chesterfield Collection
Each Winchester Chesterfield is handmade in our British workshop using traditional upholstery methods passed down through generations. You can explore our full craft lineage in the Heritage Timeline, which documents how our techniques have evolved since the early makers.
The Louis Collection
The Louis Chesterfield is a refined, contemporary interpretation of the classic British design. With its smooth, unbuttoned back and arms, clean tailored panels and distinctive solid‑wood plinth base, the Louis offers a modern architectural silhouette while retaining the quiet authority of a true maker’s piece. The absence of deep buttoning allows the leather’s natural grain and colour depth to take centre stage, while the plinth introduces a grounded, sculptural presence rarely seen in traditional Chesterfields. Built on a hand‑joined hardwood frame and upholstered entirely by hand, the Louis delivers a supportive, comfortable sit with a calm, modern‑heritage character.

Craft & Construction
The Louis is crafted with smooth, unbuttoned leather panels across the back, arms and seat, a style that demands exceptional precision in cutting, stretching and hand‑tacking. Without the structure of deep buttoning, the tailoring must be flawless, with every seam aligned and every curve perfectly shaped.
Its defining feature is the solid‑wood plinth base, hand‑finished in our workshop. The plinth is crafted from kiln‑dried hardwood, shaped, sanded and stained by hand to complement the chosen leather. This base gives the Louis its grounded, architectural stance and elevates it from a traditional sofa to a modern design piece.
The frame is hand‑joined from solid hardwood, dowelled, glued and screwed for enduring strength. Every element is crafted using the traditional British upholstery methods outlined in our Craft & Upholstery Guide, ensuring structure, comfort and long‑term durability.
Made in England, One Piece at a Time
Every Winchester sofa is produced in small batches by trained upholsterers in England, maintaining the standards set out in our Workshop Principles and preserving the heritage of traditional British furniture making.
